Odd Fellows Poster | Poster | Wisconsin Historical Society
The International Order of the Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) serve their fellow man by following the tenets of Friendship, Love, and Truth. A secret society for the working man, their main duties are to "visit the sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead, and educate the orphan."

The I.O.O.F. began as a fraternal organization in England prior to 1745. The American origins of the organization date back to 1819. With the creation of the Rebekah Lodge in 1851 for female family members of Odd Fellows, the I.O.O.F became the first national fraternity to include both men and women.

Some of the society's symbols present in this poster include: the All-Seeing Eye as a symbol of the omniscient God; the Three Links to represent Friendship, Love, and Truth; the Heart and Hand as incentives to love and mercy; the Bible is a source of truth; the Bundle of Rods is an emblem of strength; the Rebekah Lodge uses the Beehive to represent order and Industry, the Dove as a symbol of peace, and the Lily as a representation of purity.
