Officer's Commission of the Army of the American Eagle

Front of a fund-raising certificate of the U.S. Sanitary Commission appointing Emily Grouch a sergeant in the Army of the American Eagle. The Commission facilitated home-front contribution to the Union Civil War effort. This fund-raising drive raised money by selling pictures of "the LIVE EAGLE," Old Abe. The certificate features the seal of the Sanitary Commission and also has images of eagles and a banner in the background that reads "Rally Round The Old Flag." |
