Worn by Cora L. Cundiff (1859-1934), donor Hannah Cundiff's sister. Cora was the daughter of Colonel James H.R. Cundiff (1832-1885) and Cecilia Keedy (1839-1934), who lived in St. Joseph, Missouri at the time of the U.S. Civil War (1861-1865). Because of their Southern sympathies and the Colonel's involvement in the Confederacy, Mrs. Cundiff and children were banished to Texas. This dress was handspun and handwoven for Cora by a private family in Nacogdoches, Texas. Cora and Cecilia moved to Madison, Wisconsin around 1920. |
