Summer White House on the Brule

Black and white postcard view of Cedar Island Lodge, located on the Brule River, owned by Henry Clay Pierce, businessman and financier. It was dubbed the Summer White House on the Brule. It was called that because Calvin Coolidge, our 30th President, and his wife spent time there in the summer. On each side are oval portraits of Calvin Coolidge and his wife Grace. President Coolidge loved to fish. Caption reads: "Summer White House on the Brule." |
