The photograph was taken for an article called "Production; A Pictorial Report" appearing in the February-March 1959 issue of Harvester World Magazine. The original caption reads: "Metros in Bridgeport. These IH Metros, massed bumper to grille under the Connecticut sun, represent slightly more than one day's production for the Metropolitan Body company, the International Harvester subsidiary in Bridgeport. Last November, Metropolitan was winging along with an average output of 50 Metros a day. Currently the schedule calls for 66 and the plant is surpassing that figure by ten or more trucks a day. Hottest item in the line is the new Metro-mite (front and center in facing photo) which accounts for nearly five-sixths of the total. The order bank for all Metros is more than three times its normal size. A recent government order for 1,049 has swelled the figure further." The photo was likely taken by IH photo editor Angus McDougall. |
