The photograph was taken for "Production; A Pictorial Report," an article appearing in the February-March 1959 issue of "Harvester World Magazine." The caption on a similar photograph reads, "Crawlers in Chicago. Healthiest quality of Harvester's upturn is the fact that all IH divisions - all major products - are affected. The Construction Equipment Division, for example, with plants in Chicago, Melrose Park and Milwaukee, finds itself with the largest peacetime backlog in its 15-year history. By May 5, the division will have made its third production increase in four months, will have tripled its output of crawler tractors. Improved conditions in the industry plus favorable acceptance of new IH products have brightened the Construction Equipment picture. Augmenting the civilian business: two sizable contracts for the military; one huge export order for the Turkish National Highway department." |
