The original photograph caption reads, "Small size of gas turbine engine in Harvester's HT-340 research tractor permitted radically new visual concept. Based on low, forward-sloping hood line, design provides visibility for operator that would be impossible with conventional water-cooled piston engine. Since turbine engine needs little servicing, stylists could design hood to enclose it completely--in contrast with traditional side exposure of U.S. farm tractor engines. Skin is molded fiberglass with aluminum nose section. Rear end section includes fenders. Slots give operator full view of hitch. IH industrial designers in picture are, from left: George E. Bowman; Theodore H. Koeber, chief; and James R. McGirk." |
