McCormick Works Illuminated on December Night

McCormick Works Illuminated on December Night | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
Elevated view of International Harvester's McCormick Works lit up on a December night. A very large lit Christmas tree is on the roof of the building. A sign along the front of the building reads: "'Quality is the foundation of our business!' — Alex Legge, President." The McCormick Works was built in 1873 and was located at Blue Island and Western Avenues in the Chicago subdivision called "Canalport." The factory closed in 1961. The original caption said: "Superintendent F.H. Harrison of McCormick works and his organization had their own Christmas tree. It was large enough to be visible to the employees for a considerable distance in all directions as they came to and went from their work. It was lighted and decorated in attractive style and exemplified the get-together spirit that is so characteristic of McCormick."
