Black and white lithograph on paper. Title over image of minstrel company. Inserts of Lon and Billy Morris, left and right. Large image of man papering storefront with Morris Brothers playbill over existing advertisements. Young boy and passing couple look on. Hand signed July 3 1867. Canvas backed with multiple folds. Lon Morris and his brothers Charley and Billy first performed with, and then succeeded, the Ordway Minstrels, who performed in Ordway Hall, Boston. The Morris company occupied the space with the Pell and Trowbridge companies until it burned down in 1864, after which they relocated to St. Louis and traveled widely. The troupe featured Lon on tambourine and Billy on the bones and such dancers as Carroll and Queen. |
