Waist-up seated studio portrait of Ellend Erickson, a first lieutenant in Company K, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Freeborn, Minnesota. On November 11, 1861 he enlisted and was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 26. He was appointed to the rank of corporal on February 01, 1862. By May 1, 1862, he received another appoint this time to the rank of sergeant. In June 1863, he received a commission as a second lieutenant and was left to recover from an illness on Island No. 10, Tennessee. During the fighting that took place near New Hope Church, Georgia on May 27, 1864, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war until he was exchanged on September 29, 1864. He received his final promotion on November 10, 1864, to first lieutenant. He mustered out with the company on February 10, 1865, at Chattanooga, Tennessee.
