Captain Hans Hanson
Quarter-length studio portrait of Hans Hanson, a captain in Company C, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Norway, Wisconsin. On November 22, 1861, he was commissioned as first lieutenant by the governor of Wisconsin and was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at age 24. He was promoted to the rank of captain on June 23, 1862, at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He died on October 12, 1863, in Atlanta, Georgia, from wounds he received at the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia. He was initially buried at Atlanta, Georgia, but was moved to the National Cemetery at Marietta, Georgia. Buried at: Section A, Site 1070, Grave G. |
