The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Perry, Wisconsin. On January 1, 1862, he was enlisted as a private and mustered into service on February 13, 1862, in Madison, Wisconsin at age 27. He was named commissary sergeant on February 28, 1862. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant on July 9, 1862. From August to December 1862, he was the acting brigade commissary. On April 11, 1863, he became acting regimental quarter master. He was in command of a supply train of the 1st Division in September 1863. Because of an illness, he was left behind in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In February 1864, he was the temporary commander of Company A, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. The following month he was made acting post commissary at Strawberry, Plaines, Tennessee. In April 1864, he was appointed brigade ambulance director. He was promoted to first lieutenant on October 19, 1864. He was mustered out of service with C Company on December 31, 1864, at Chattanooga, Tennessee. |
