Dodd based the play on the novel by Leon and wrote it as a vehicle for Holmes (1878-1959). It ran for just 72 performances at the Astor Theatre, but was made into films in 1918 (with Jack Pickford), again in 1925 (directed by Harry Beaumont), and lastly in 1936 (with Lucille Ball). |
