Maggie Cline (1857-1934), the one-time member of the "golden dozen" of vaudeville singers in the late nineteenth century, made a name as one of the first Irish comedy singers (her signature song was "Throw 'Em Down McCloskey"). She specialized in so-called "laryngitis solos," indicating the range and quality of her voice. This is reputedly the only play in which she ever acted (though she is given credit for "Garry Owen" from the year before), in which she played Mary Brady. |
