An included newspaper clipping reads: "John Deere Tractor Co. at Waterloo. The Waterloo Gasoline Engine Co., Waterloo, Iowa, which has been owned and operated by Deere & Company since March, 1918, has been given the name, John Deere Tractor Co. as a result of an amendment to the articles of incorporation adopted by stockholders at their annual meeting. Change in name becomes effective on April 1. The Waterloo company was first organized in 1892. For many years it was well known in the farm equipment world for its 'Waterloo Boy' engines and kerosene tractor. After purchase of the concern by Deere & Company, the old trade name for products was retained for several years. When the present models were brought out, however, they were given the name John Deere. Thus, the change in the name of the Company was made to accord with the name of its products." |
