Waist-up seated studio portrait of Anthon O. Oyer, a hospital steward in the 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform, holding a sword across his lap. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He held residence in Chicago, Illinois. On October 8, 1861, he enlisted in Chicago, Illinois and was appointed as the regiment’s hospital steward on November 18, 1861. He was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin on February 13, 1862, at the age of 21. He was taken as a prisoner of war during the battle at Chickamauga, Georgia on September 20, 1863. He was mustered out on May 25, 1865, at Madison, Wisconsin. |
