Thor Simonson
Head and shoulders studio portrait of Thor Simonson, a first lieutenant in Company F, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Christian County, Illinois. On January 11, 1862, he was commissioned as a first lieutenant and mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin on January 14, 1862, at the age of 24. He was wounded at Stone River, Tennessee on December 30, 1862. He commanded Company F briefly during the war. On May 27, 1864, he was taken prisoner during the fighting at New Hope Church, Georgia. In September 1864, he was exchanged and rejoined Company F on September 24, 1864. He mustered out with the company on January 14, 1865, at Chattanooga, Tennessee. |
