Sixth plate daguerreotype waist-up portrait of Captain William H. Chapman, a regular army officer who served in the Mexican War and the Civil War. After retiring, Chapman settled in Green Bay, his wife's home. Chapman met his wife while posted at Fort Howard between 1833 and 1838. In this portrait he is wearing a Mexican War-era uniform. |
