Painting depicting the Battle of New Orleans, fought on 8 January 1815. In the upper corner of the painting Major General Andrew Jackson is shown at the top of a ditch swinging the butt of his gun. American soldiers are shown coming over the top of the ditch while British soldiers make up much of the foreground on the other side. The battle was a victory for the United States and was the last battle fought in the War of 1812. |
