Communal Shower for Migrant Workers

A boy wearing a white short-sleeved t-shirt and dark pants is barefoot and standing to the left of a communal shower hut for migrant farm workers in a Wautoma labor camp. The communal hut is floorless and has a tin exterior. Inside, there are shower heads and sinks. This photograph is a part of Wisconsin-native David Giffey's series "Struggle for Justice," images from the migrant farm worker struggle including an independent organizing effort in Wisconsin and the nationwide grape boycott movement started by Cesar Chavez of United Farm Workers during the 1960s and 1970s. Many migrant farm laborers traveled from Texas to Wisconsin in search of seasonal field work.
