Map
Published in Germany in 1849, a year after Wisconsin entered statehood, this map shows roads, steamship lines, prairies, swamps, lakes, natural and artificial mounds, limestone deposits, canals, and lead and copper mines, in addition to counties and towns. The map key is written in German. Unsurveyed land in the north central part of the state is marked, "Noch unvernsene Landstriche des Staates Wisconsin," which translates to "still untouched areas of the state of Wisconsin."
