Prison Convict Hauls Wood with Ox-Driven Wagon

View of a prisoner, who has a wooden leg, hauling "lighter" wood from the pine woods and Turpentine Orchard to camp with an ox-drawn wagon. Original caption reads: "It will be noted that very little harness is used. The shafts of the wagon — made from saplings — are fastened directly to the yoke by means of pieces of wire. In driving, only one line is used, it being turned from side to side as it becomes necessary to turn to the right or left." |
