Otis Elevator

Elevated view from stairway of the ornate Otis elevator in the Wisconsin Historical Society building. This elevator was installed as original equipment in 1900. This view was taken of the first floor during remodeling, and it shows the elevator operator, Matilda Severson (left), and Willie Jo Walker, a member of the maintenance staff. A poster mounted on the front of the elevator says: "take a trip through Wisconsin's past VISIT THE MUSEUM on the 4th floor." Two men stand near a doorway in the background. |
