International LFCD-405 Truck
Men back an International LFCD-405 semi-truck with sleeper cab up to a loading dock. The truck was owned by Berchtold Transfer Company of Columbus, Nebraska. The press release that accompanied the original photograph reads: "COLUMBUS, NEBR. -- Four thousand miles for eggs is the round trip route run by this International LFCD-405 sleeper cab tractor owned by Berchtold Transfer company. The cab-over-engine six-wheeler, powered by a diesel engine, mounts a "sliding fifth wheel," and hauls a 35-foot aluminum body tandem axle refrigerated trailer. The unit gathers its load of 606 cases of eggs in Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska and hauls to Los Angeles. The sliding fifth wheel permits overall length changes ranging from 45 feet, five inches to 50 feet, one inch, to meet various state length requirements. The 194-inche wheelbase tractor was built at International Harvester Company's Emeryville, Calif., plant." |
