Original caption: "Marguerite Sylva who was once so popular on the operatic stage is seldom heard now. She sang Carmen in Boston recently but New York has not heard her voice since she sang the same role two years ago. In these pictures can be seen the reason why Mme. Sylva has practically deserted professional life. It is for the purpose of devoting her life to the two little children whose father is in Florida training aviators for the Navy. He is Capt. Bernard L. Smith and Mme. Sylva met him when he was attached to the United States Embassy in Paris three years ago. He is in charge of naval aviation at present. His station is Miami." |
