Accessing Collections
The vast majority of the items in our collections are not online. The Society owns thousands of archival collections viewable in our Archives reading room. To view and conduct research in our collections, visit us in person.
Blue Headed Tanager
The Blue Headed Tanager is a New World songbird from the family Thraupidae, known for its brightly-colored plumage.
American Eagle
The American or Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is the national symbol of the United States. It is the only eagle unique to North America, and is listed as a threatened species.
Woodpecker
The woodpecker is a brightly colored bird of the family, Picidae. It has a stiff tail and strong claws to aid in climbing, and a chisel-like beak for boring holes in wood to feed on insect larvae.
Kingfisher
The kingfisher, from the Alcedinidae family is noted for its crested head, bright colors, and long, sharp bill. Most species feed on fish by diving and grabbing them with their beaks.
Cardinal
The cardinal, or redbird is a finch found throughout the Americas. Its defining features include bright red plumage, a musical song, and a pointed crest on top of its head.
