Church Dedication Service
Exterior of a church building taken by a civil rights volunteer. "Dedication services of the Society Hill Baptist Church. At least 400 negroes jammed the church but only 15-20 whites. Previous church was the victim of a bombing. Most of the money was given by the Committee of the Concerned, a group dedicated to the replacement of the 41 bombed churches in Mississippi. Rev. Ed King, white minister of Tougaloo College, was critical of this effort because he felt that an undeserved good image of Mississippi was being created. Known segregationists have donated to this replacement effort." |
