Reddish/purple velvet inside cover. On mat below image is stamped "McCLEES & GERMON PHILA." James McClees went into partnership with W.L. Germon in 1846 and the two worked together for eight years. In the mid 1850s McClees opened a branch in Washington, D.C., that was said to resemble an art gallery, splendidly furnished. His Philadelphia Studio at 626 Chestnut Street employed 14 people, including six artists. His studios were attractions in themselves. Stamped leather case. |
