Truck Moving Statue at Mission San Juan Bautista

View of an International C-O 4070A Transtar truck parked with the metal statue "St. Francis of the Guns" on a trailer with three flags attached. The statue represents St. Francis of Assisi, and was created by San Francisco sculptor Beniamino Bufano, and was cast from the melted down barrels of 1,900 guns. The statue has a mosaic of assassination victims President John F. Kennedy, Robbert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Abraham Lincoln on it's lower half. Around the statue are a Franciscan priest, children in religious garb, men in suits, reporters, and observers. The photo caption reads, "Typical of public interest in the historic journey was welcome tendered entourage at Mission San Juan Bautista, just east of Monterey. This spot has largest church of any among missions founded two centuries ago." |
