Graves in a Segregated Cemetery
A grave in a segregated cemetery photographed by a civil rights volunteer, who notes that the Caucasian cemetery uses town funding while the African-American cemetery receives none. "This white cemetery in Summit is cared for by paid town workers. Symbolically, one day we talked with a Negro who was digging a grave. On the tombstone was the name 'Barnett'! Even in death, racism can be found in McComb and Summit. The white cemeteries are well kept and are paid for through town taxes." |
