Two Soldiers

Two Soldiers | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
Two Wisconsin cousins, (left) Corporal Englund Johnson, bomber waist gunner, of Park Falls and (right) Sergeant Donald Englund, airplane engine mechanic, of Prentice, are posed shirtless in front of a painted sign at the Kiriwina Airfield on Kiriwina Island, in the Solomon Sea, New Guinea (present day Papua New Guinea). They reunited for the first time in three years on March 16th, 1942, in Darwin, Australia. The sign probably reads, "90th Bomb Group." In Doyle's notes, Sergeant Englund is with the "319th Sq. 90th Bomb."
