"Windy City Kitty"

Mechanic Sergeant Raymond Smith of Ontario, Wisconsin, stands next to the nose art, "Windy City Kitty," depicting a naked woman in the "pin-up style" on the fuselage of his warplane. The airfield is near Port Moresby, New Guinea (present day Papua New Guinea). Robert Doyle wrote a caption for this image although it was not published at that time, "Airman poses beside B-24 at airstrip in New Guinea. Plane is named after cartoon character featured in Yank Down Under, Australian edition of Army Magazine Yank." She was a "racy cartoon character named 'Windy City Kitty,' from Chicago, Illinois," created by Sergeant Jack Crowe. |
