SUMMARY
Mayer, George P., Boathouse
7708 Braeger Road, Town of Three Lakes, Oneida County
Date of construction: circa 1920

The Mayer Boathouse sits on the west shore of Planting Ground Lake, part of the Three Lakes chain of lakes in Oneida County. The Mayer Boathouse is a two-story wet boathouse with a pyramidal hipped roof covered in asphalt shingles. The boathouse footprint is a simple square plan. The hipped roof, groupings of three-over-one multi-pane windows on the second story, exposed rafter ends, and drop-lap siding emphasize the horizontal lines of this Craftsman-style boathouse. There are two interior boat slips enclosed by wood retractable doors on the southeast facade, and the second floor interior features three finished rooms and a bathroom, intended for entertaining and additional living space.

The boathouse has been well maintained and remains historically intact. It is a strong example of Craftsman style architecture applied to boathouse design. It further serves as a reminder of the lifestyles of early twentieth century seasonal residents in northern Wisconsin. At two stories, the building is a prominent feature on the shores of Planting Ground Lake and has been recognizable to locals and tourists alike for over 90 years.

This boathouse is private property. Please respect the rights and privacy of the owners.
