SUMMARY
Henry & Barbara Bierbauer House
970 South Monroe Street, New Lisbon, Juneau County
Date of Construction: 1869

The Henry and Barbara Bierbauer House was constructed in 1869 in the City of New Lisbon, Juneau County. With its boxy massing, symmetrical façade, arched windows, decorative front porch, embellished cornice, tripart window, and distinctive cupola, the Henry and Barbara Bierbauer House is an excellent representative of the Italianate style that was popular in Wisconsin in the late nineteenth century. It is unquestionably the finest example of the style in the City of New Lisbon, as well as one of the largest, best representative, and most-intact Italianate houses in Juneau County.

In 1859, Henry Bierbauer and his brother-in-law Peter Fauerbach purchased the New Lisbon Brewery which included the land where he the house would be constructed. Completed in 1869, the “Bierbauer Mansion” came to be known as a local landmark and indicator of its owner’s success. Following the death of Henry Bierbauer in 1902, the house remained in the family until 1947. After serving as a nursing home in the 1950s and 1960s, the Bierbauer House fell into disrepair and was in danger of being razed until new owners undertook a meticulous restoration of the house between 2011 and 2013, restoring the home to its original grandeur. This property is private. Please respect the rights and privacy of the owners.
