The Connor Lumber and Land Company Store was constructed between 1914 and 1916 for the Connor Lumber and Land Company. The building was designed by architect Gus A. Krasin, whose many notable works of architecture included historic structures such as the Weinbrenner Shoe Factory and the Roddis House, both located in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

As a store, it offered wares that included a dry goods department, shoe and women’s apparel/intimates department, hardware department, mill and feed department, furniture and appliances department, soda fountain, toy department, drug store, and meat market.

Its second-floor office spaces, utilized by the Connor Land and Lumber company executives, secretaries, payroll and accounting departments, railroad office management, and lumber office management. It also housed both the Laona Post Office and the local U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs Office.
