SUMMARY
Siebken’s Resort
284 South Lake Street, Elkhart Lake, Sheboygan County
Architect: Edgar A. Stubenrauch
Date of Construction: 1882, 1888, 1921, and 1925

Siebken’s Resort, a complex comprised of five distinct historic buildings at 284 South Lake Street in the Village of Elkhart Lake, was a seasonal tourist destination focused on leisure, the use of Elkhart Lake as a geographic attraction, planned formal entertainment such as musical and theater performances, dining, and its association with the popularity of road racing and Road America in Sheboygan County.

The resort was responsible for a significant contribution to the history of entertainment from 1916, when the Siebken family took over the property and further developed it as a resort, to circa 1969, when the property continued to be used for its original purpose up to fifty years ago. While the grounds of the resort have changed since the early twentieth century, most of the main resort buildings, including the 1882 original Belleview Hotel, the 1882 Opera House, the 1888 Lake Cottage, the 1921 Ice Cream Stand, and the 1925 Elm Park Hotel, remain. These resources maintain much of their historic integrity as twentieth-century resort buildings.

The resort, which continued to be operated by Siebken’s family for over a century, has survived to the present while other historic resorts in and around Elkhart Lake have been demolished or significantly remodeled. Siebken’s Resort is still in operation under the Siebken’s name, is a popular hotel destination in Elkhart Lake, and is the only remaining historic local resort.
