SUMMARY
Edward F. and Jean Kohl House
815 Nicolet Avenue, De Pere, Brown County
Architect: Harry W. Williams
Date of Construction: 1940

Situated on a prominent multi-lot corner parcel, the two-story-tall Edward F. and Jean Kohl House was constructed in 1940 and is one of the largest and is the finest Neoclassical Revival Style house to have been built in De Pere. Edward F. Kohl was the manager of the large H. C. Prange department store in Green Bay when his new house was built and it was designed by Harry W. Williams, a Green Bay architect who was then nine years into his solo career as an architect and who is now considered to have been one of the most successful architects practicing in the Green Bay area during the mid-twentieth century. The L-plan house that Williams designed for the Kohls is clad mostly in red brick and it has living space that is spread over two stories. The house is one of Williams’ finest known residential designs and it is also the finest example of the Neoclassical Revival Style to be found in the city of De Pere.
