It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. QUEEN ANNE/ITALIANATE TRANSITIONAL. PEDIMENTED WINDOW HOODS. BRACKETS UNDER EAVES. MODILLIONS IN GABLE. ELABORATE PORCH. 2 STORY BAY ON SIDE W/SPINDLED GABLE ORNAMENT. LARGE BAY ON OPP SIDE. Previously surveyed in 1974. Tax records indicate that a portion of the house was built by either Squire or DeWitt Stanford, both of which were carpenters/builders. The home was sold in 1879 to William J. Stratton, who is responsible for the "Victorianization" of the home, between 1879 and 1889. Stratton died in 1894 and, the following year, the house was sold to George Bentley who retained the property until c. 1919. By no later than 1930, the house was converted from one-family to two-family use. |
