NOTES
Additional Information:POINTED ARCHED STAINED GLASS WINDOWS W/TRACERY. TOWER WITH BUTTRESSES AND BATTLEMENTS. In 1842, Fr. Philo and Fr. Cadle held services of the precurser of the congregation in the log school house. In 1851, Dr. James Tripp's widow, Rosepha (Comstock) Tripp gave land for the church at the present site. The Tripp's had two sons named Daniel and William. On March 20, 1852, St. Luke's was established as a legal entity. The first church built here was in 1852 and on 4/22/1852, it was consecrated by Rev. Bishop Kemper. On 2/17/1869, this church was destroyed by fire. Construction was started on the present church in 7/1869; the corner stone was laid on 11/3/1869. The church was completed on 11/3/1870. In 1921, the church tower was completed and it was paid for by Mrs. Walton and Mrs. Minor Halverson. A new slate roof was also added at this time. Roof was again replaced with slate in 1940. AROUND 2005, A NEW HALL ADDITION WAS ADDED TO THE NORTH ELEVATION OF THE CHURCH. "In 1852, St. Luke's Episcopal Church became a legal entity after ten years of worship under Fathers Philo and Cadle. The church's present site and original building were bought from Rosepha Comstock Tripp and consecrated by by Rev. Bishop Kemper in 1852. The church was renovated and a bell added in 1867. Disaster struck in 1869 when a fire destroyed the church. A new church, the current one, was built in November of that same year." Touring Historical Whitewater, n.d.
