"Built in 1862, this octagon house was an architectural innovation promoted as an economical and functional home. The White House is a small, two-story frame structure with wide overhanging eaves, a carved frieze, and brackets. The house was built for Lyman Wight, an inventor who worked at the Esterly Reaper Works. Octagon houses are quite rare, and this example is of special note because of its small size."
