It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This structure is an excellent example of 1920s apartment buildings. It is designed in the English Arts and Crafts. Milwaukee Connector Survey, Prepared by Heritage Research (2010). DOE prepared by Heritage Research (2010). 2010: This expansive, three-story, Tudor-Revival-style brick apartment building has decorative, half-timbered bays spanning the second and third stories. Bays feature either hipped or gabled slate-covered roofs. A projecting, one-story, limestone entrance block contains a broken, ogee pediment and multiple-light, leaded lancet windows. Building window openings feature limestone surrounds on the second story and limestone sills on the first and third stories. Fenestration consists of six-over-one, wooden sash windows with six-over-six windows in the bays. Raised brick banding highlights the first floor and raised brick at the corners create a quoin effect. Constructed in 1925 as a 36-unit apartment building for an approximate cost of $165,000. its original building permit lists the Irving H. Benesch Company as owner. Allan Kenney, architect and engineer with Irving H. Benesch Company, designed the building. |
