Additional Information: | East Side Construction was the builder. This structure is an excellent example of apartment buildings which were influenced by the International Style. Previously surveyed in 1986 with map code 33/8. Map name was LUQS 359. Not resurveyed as part of Milwaukee Downtown Connector Arch/History Survey (2010), Prepared by Heritage Research. Loss of integrity--loss of unique original fenestration. 2010: This nine-story, brick apartment building has a cross-shaped plan and displays restrained elements of the International Style. The first story features a square-cut. limestone veneer and a rounded, glass-block entrance with a flat hood. The primary architectural elements on the upper floors are corner windows and prow-like windows bays. Windows are modern replacement, single-pane, casement examples. Constructed in 1939-1940, the subject apartment building was designed by Russel B. Williamson and East Side Construction was the builder. Its distinctive, original, multiple-paned fenestration was replaced sometime after 1986. |
