LOG CABIN W/ FIELDSTONE LEAN-TO BUILT AS TEMPORARYSHELTER WHILE BRICK HOUSE WASBEING BUILT 2019: House: This building (#10517) is a two-story Gothic Revival house-built ca. 1840-1850’s. The house is asymmetrical in its plan with a gable end on the front façade and two on the side elevations. The roof is steeply pitched and clad with asphalt shingles. The house is constructed of brick and sits on a foundation of field stone rubble. A later addition appears to have been constructed on the rear of the house with a secondary roof and clad in vertical boards. The entrances are located off the west and east sides of the front gable. A single-story porch with a dropped secondary roof shelters the entrances. Carved wooden posts, frieze and balusters accent the porch. A pair of 6 over 6 paned windows are located in the center of the first floor of the front façade with a stone lintel overhead. The same style of window with a stone lintel are found around the first floor of the house. On the second floor of the front façade is a narrow one over one window with two narrow windows flanking it. All three windows feature pointed arches. Two narrow 1/1 windows can be found on the second floor of the east façade with pointed arches. Dairy Barn #1: A gabled dairy barn (#240701) with a stone foundation and vertical board siding ca. 1890-1900 is located northeast of the house. The roof is clad in asphalt shingles. The foundation has had multiple entrances over the years; some are enclosed with boards and others have been bricked over and feature vinyl sliding windows. Log House: This small, side gabled log building (#10518) displays dovetail notching with clay chinking between the logs. A shed-roofed, fieldstone addition is attached to the west façade. Both sections are roofed with wooden shingles. It was built ca. 1843. The Front façade features a main double door entrance and single four paned window. On either gabled end at the attic story are two window type openings. An internal stone chimney protrudes from east end of the roof line at its peak. Dairy Barn #2: A small gabled dairy barn (#240702) ca. 1890-1900 sits adjacent to the log house to the west. The barn is clad in vertical boards except for the gabled ends bear the roof line where the barn is clad in wooden shakes. The roof is covered with asphalt shingles. A large central door is featured at the center of the front façade. |
