Both the Klinkert barn and its accompanying house were built by Ernst Klinkert on land acquired piecemeal between 1888 and 1890 from R. Ben Bones. Klinkert built the Bluegrass style barn for his sulky racing horses. It is believed to be the only barn of its size surviving in the Midwest.
