PEDIMENTED GABLE SUPPORTED ON 4 DORIC COLUMN PILASTERS [Date Cnst:CA] FRAME GREEK REVIVAL HOUSE WITH A DORIC TETRAPROSTYLE PORTICO BUILT CA 1853 WITH AN 1870 ONE STORY WING. The Collins House is an unusual type in Wisconsin: a Greek Revival building with a full temple front. Four massive Doric columns rise from square stone bases to support a large triangular pediment. The building’s timber-framed, mortise-and-tenoned core was built around 1853, and its one-story balloon-frame wing added about 1870. The building closely resembles the Cooley-Kuehneman House (RA13.3), a temple-front residence attributed to architect Lucas Bradley of Racine. |
