Additional Information: | 2010: This two-story, commercial vernacular, rusticated concrete block building has face brick on the primary (southeast) elevation. The first story contains two, recessed entrances and a storefront covered with painted plywood. Fenestration on the second story consists of paired, six-over-one, wooden sash windows resting on a limestone sill. The parapet contains three slightly recessed bays. Designed by John LaVies, the subject building was constructed in 1916 for owner Martha Frank. Frank both resided and operated her grocery business in the building until at least 1937. By 1950, Jas. Amann had taken over the grocery business, which gave way by 1962 to the DeQuardo Pizza House. Resurveyed as part of Milwaukee Downtown Connector Arch/History Survey (2010), Prepared by Heritage Research. |
