Additional Information: | RETURNED EAVES. Later owners of the house were Frank A. Schwaller and Joseph and Nancy Dahlstrom. It is believed that Durgin was involved with the Underground Railroad. Durgin obtained this property, which included a partially finished stone house, from Dr. Joel Henry Cooper in May of 1854 and completed the house in 1855. According to one source, quarters to secret migrating slaves were hidden on the premises. But whether it was at this house or at Durgin's farm just outside of Burlington on Bieneman Road is not known. |
