| Additional Information: | The former District 4 school was built in 1894 at a cost of $500 on an outcropping located on William Shale's Riverside Farm. In 1939 substantial improvements were made, including a new basement, alterations, and the installation of a furnace. The 1937 land inventory indicates that the building had stove heat. This school served students through the eighth grade. After that, students took a county test to proceed to high school. The school was closed in 1951 and the students were sent to North Freedom. The building is now used as a residence. Alterations to the building include cut-down windows and the addition of a window over the front door. |
