FLUTED SQUARE PORCH COLUMNS AND PILASTERS. DENTILLED PORCH EAVE. HABS WI-124. NICHOLAS D. FRATT, STATE SENATOR (1859-1860) AND GUBANATORIAL CANDIDATE (1881 and 1884), ONCE LIVED HERE. South Side Historic District Walking Tour Guide: Nicholas Fratt (1825-1910) was one of the originators and directors of the Racine County Bank in 1853. He served as director until 1858 when he was also made president. When the bank was reorganized in 1864, Fratt was retained as president and director of the First National Bank of Racine. He held this position for 51 years. Fratt was also president of both State Agricultural Society and Racine County Agricultural Society. Was also on the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents. From 1882 to 1893 this was the home of Joseph and Carrie Quarles. He was a partner in the presitigious Milwaukee law firm of Quarles, Spencer, and Quarles. After 1893 Nicholas and Eva Fratt lived here. Fratt was president of the First National Bank of Racine for 35 years. He was also senator and twice candidate for governor. The Fratts lived here until 1909, when they retired to California. |
