NOTES
Additional Information:Very early 2 story brick commercial building in almost original condition. Partial original storefront. Two story buildings of this type were most common in the 1850s and it is possible that this building was constructed at that time. The building at the northwest corner of Clinton Street (now South 1st Street) and Lake Street (now West Pittsburgh Avenue) was addressed at 133-135-137 Clinton Street and is today 161-169 South 1st Street. The building was demolished after the South First and Second Streets National Register Historic District was created in 1987. The roof collapsed or walls collapsed and the building was demolished. When the National Register nomination was prepared, some research was done on the tenants in the building:

133-- F. D. Morris (1867)--George Phillips grocer (1870-1872/73)

135--Girmschid (1867)(cigars & tobacco)--Frank W. Mueller harness maker & trunks, lived upstairs from shop (1874-1886)

137--Phillips (1867) (wines & liquors) --John Langham (1868-1871) boot and shoe maker --Jonas Kaufer (1874-1877) dry goods

It was typical for tenants to move in and out of buildings, some going out of business, some relocating to better retail sites.
